WE Create, ReCreate, RePurpose, Construct!!!

WE Create, ReCreate, RePurpose, Construct!!!

Ah, the sweet memories; a few years back, both my children had such passions; Nathan had his addiction to Legos, and Mia learned to sew and made many ‘things’.   Both of my children have really grown and matured since then and have different interests and passions.  They’re teenagers now, but the angelic like memories are priceless with such sweetness and, innocence and purity!

When Nathan was younger, he had a true fascination, or should I say, “fixation” with anything LEGO!  His Papa Jerry and Bibi would take him to the Lego store in The Galleria, and to the now defunct TOYS R US, etc. regularly for hours of awe and a Lego kit for Nathan very visit. He loved Legos so much, my own parents, Grandpa Don and Grandma Trude from California, took him to Legoland two times within a few year span years back, as did his Papa Jerry and Bibi!  Thank you, Grandparents!   Nathan could and would spend countless hours building Legos per the directions and goes thru the process (without looking or reading them), and he would allow the building to stand in its existence for some time. He was so proud and would show everybody his work of art, his master-piece several times… and I mean everybody! Being such a proud dad, I YouTubed part of the process and send to my folks, etc….  It is, and it was cool, how it was created, and how Nathan’s mind worked!  The process is amazing!  In time, he either got board, or seriously peeved, that he ran out of pieces/blocks, or just anxious and so very creative (like most young children), so he totally destroyed and would tear it apart, demolishing, destructing, ruining, disregarding and ”all” the other words that mean to destroy and rebuild with intent……. and uses the same exact pieces that let’s say made a fire truck, and NOW takes his time and creativity, and reconstructed each piece with his little hands and creative spirit into…….ah, ah,ah… The empire state building or a Temple maybe with those same exact building blocks, but a fresh start in Nathan’s mind and that of a physical space, allowing him to re-create, restructure, restart, repurpose…and this really parallels with this week’s reading of Noah; Nathan had some or maybe a little disdain with his Fire truck in time (actually boredom), and wanted to start a new, and showed his creativity, and RE-CREATED,  with a sincere manner and purpose!!  By the way, the now 16 year old, still has his Legos in a huge box and even some “models” displayed ever so very proudly!

Mia wanted to learn to sew and create like many children and showed such a love for it!!!!   She received a sewing machine for her birthday one year; I think she was 7!  She learned many stitches, and how to use different fabric, and honestly, she learned “Processes and Procedures” with such grace……….  Mia had a knack for sewing and stitching EVERYTHING, and I mean everything!!! She took a little of this and a lot of that, and just attached one another together via her sewing machine, creating and repurposing……   One day, she came down stairs, with a VERY looooong, and I mean long coat-like creation of many different pieces of fabric and what I remember were remnants of jeans, sweats, swim suits, blouses, towels, dog beds, etc.; all things she had probably worn before, or belonging to one of our dogs or somebody had in the house!  All the ‘Things’ and fabric that had a purposeful use once before.   She RE-CREATED and caringly REPURPOSED!!  She grew tired of those jeans or that blouse, or that Schmata (old rag or rag like) or shall I say, “Grew out of them to her liking, or mine, AND she decided to start a new, and RECREATE with purpose!  For Mia, she took a new look and started all over and built the longest coat I've ever seen!   She created something new, and something fresh in HER mind.  Although, her interests have changed since she was 7, she still constructs and is very creative, but with style, grace and manner in her step as a young adult, but with makeup and dance!  By the way, her coat reminded me of another story, but I’ll save the story about Joseph and his brothers for another time.

As human-beings, WE GROW, hopefully WE EVOLVE, and accept positive Change, and as WE do that and we process, hopefully, we take a look around us, in our “area”, our surrounding environment, and take a proactive approach and Recreate & RePurpose, Construct….. We do error, and we try again hopefully with great successes, implemented by our own imaginations, as well as influences!!!!  We need to rectify the bad and indifferent and adjust the plans of action as used by Noah has he repurposed the wood into an Ark, such a mighty vessel. He Created, he Repurposed, and he Constructed……. and recycled.

Shelach - Seek & Look Around!

Seek & Look Around.... “And what the land is, whether it is plentiful or bare, be there trees, or not……”  (13:20) It is explained by Rashi that “ TREE ” is metaphorically referring to an honorable and righteous person who shall protect and defend his domain! A very admirable characteristic indeed. We all are aware that Moses was sending in ‘the spies’, should he not have sent them in with a directive of searching for an honorable person and a home of righteousness, prayer, and sincere study of Torah?  Why then did Moses send them to just public areas?  I see the answer is rather simplistic in nature, but with deep thought; when a city/town has a population of honorable and righteous persons and those who govern, it is reflective upon the city/town itself!  As I’ve shared before, the influence of a person and his/her solid attributes and sincere beliefs are not bound by a ‘wall’, but rather felt by the community where he/she resides, and the ...

Ki Tisa - A Choice For Growth

Ki Tisa - A Choice for Growth March 2&3, 2018 In this week's reading, we read that within just a few weeks after Moses presented The Torah to  the people, the masses descended to a deeply disturbing behavior when Moses was not among them and embarked back to Mt. Sinai; the sinful behavior of worshipping idols! –  The Golden Calf! There was extreme upheaval, disturbing behaviors, but we read that Moses stepped up and pleaded with  such sincerity,  love and thoughtfulness, and shares that benign attitude and talks to the people with humanity! He made  a choice. He  chose to not create even more disturbing behavior, but made the decision to try to create a  positive environment and build up, and with the people through this "hiccup".  Does this mean, we as people can practice disturbing behavior, commit a crime, tell a blatant lie, hurt another life, etc. and then immediat...

Ki Teitzi ei - We are and/or need to be ONE!

Ki Teitzi ei - We are and/or  need to be ONE!                                      In this week's Torah portion, we read about many mitzvahs/commandments- 74 to be exact, and that is more than in any other Torah reading!  We can see that in Hebrew, this is Ayin Dalet , which also stands for ‘ed’ (not pronounced like Mr. Ed or the movie “Ted”).  The two letters in the Hebrew alphabet, Ayin and Dalet are enlarged in the first sentence of the Shema, and together these two letters form the word ‘ed’, which means ‘witness’ or ‘forever’, strongly suggesting that the Shema has the utmost influence on us, day in and day out!   It should be within our souls. Interestingly, the word ‘echad’ in Hebrew can imply a unity in diversity.  For example, Exodus 26:6 when speaking of the Tabernacle (Mishkan) is to be built so that “it shall be built, so it will be one (echad) ...
