Ki Teitzi ei - We are and/or need to be ONE!

Ki Teitzi ei - We are and/or  need to be ONE!

In this week's Torah portion, we read about many mitzvahs/commandments- 74 to be exact, and that is more than in any other Torah reading!  We can see that in Hebrew, this is Ayin Dalet, which also stands for ‘ed’ (not pronounced like Mr. Ed or the movie “Ted”).  The two letters in the Hebrew alphabet, Ayin and Dalet are enlarged in the first sentence of the Shema, and together these two letters form the word ‘ed’, which means ‘witness’ or ‘forever’, strongly suggesting that the Shema has the utmost influence on us, day in and day out!   It should be within our souls.

Interestingly, the word ‘echad’ in Hebrew can imply a unity in diversity.  For example, Exodus 26:6 when speaking of the Tabernacle (Mishkan) is to be built so that “it shall be built, so it will be one (echad) tabernacle”.  Moses also references ‘echad’ in Genesis 2:24, “and they (that of man and his wife) shall become one flesh (basar echad) …….”. ONENESS!

Sh'ma Yis'ra'eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad.
The Shema literally states of “ONENESS!”and we may all have different interpretations and some understanding, we should have an open heart, with a sincere understanding soul, and an OPEN mind.  We are all different, come in different shapes, sizes, speak different languages and beautifully unique, thankfully……., although our external color and who we choose to be with, may happen to differentiate from our brothers and our sisters next door, or even within our same homes and families.  The separation is rather shocking at times! A human being is just that; a human being, a person with values, a person with hopes and dreams with the capacity of needs, wants, love and affection, and the sincere ability to be able to live in a world of acceptance, of tolerance and that of love, and a world where is hate is null and void!  A Jewish man wearing a kippah is a human being, a black woman with beads in her hair is a human being, an Asian person with blonde hair is a human being, a man that loves another man, or woman that loves another woman is a human being, a person that may speak differently from you is a human being, a person running for political office is a human being,................. and a person who can't afford groceries is a human being…… WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS, AND BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE OF CULTURE, OF LOVE, OF SPIRITUALITY, OF DIFFERENCES, SOME MORE SCIENTIFIC THAN OTHERS, AND SOME MORE FAITHFUL, BUT WE ARE ALL ‘ECHAD’, WE ARE ALL ONE!

Let us deeply think about changing our verbiage and sentence structure - The man with a kippah is a human being, and a the African American is a human being, etc. , in other words, let's choose our words carefully when describing someBODY!    He and or she is a HUman Being , period, with out labeling!  Try it, as it's refreshing! We are ONE!

The mitzvahs/commandments that were given and/or gifted to us, really should be our daily GPS for guidance, coupled with your own decisions day in and out! It’s a map for success and of understanding, tolerance, appreciation on how we SHOULD live; be sensitive to other people’s needs, show sincere gratitude, have respect for all humankind and our surroundings, agree to disagree with grace and class (even and especially politically) be kind and understanding to those that may differ from you, and please show an understanding of unity and oneness.

Terumah - What's The Gift ?

Terumah - What's The Gift ? February 16 and 17, 2018 The word, "Terumah" means "gift', "contribution", "offering" .  This Torah portion continues to detail and share the story of the building of "The Tabernacle, or Temple", and it's ornamentation from the men and women! Women?  Yes, it explicitly states that the instructions that were utilized were intended for BOTH men and women!  This really stands out in indelible ink of sorts, as it is very clear that women were invited and actively open to participate in an inclusive manner, in what might be considered a very male dominated cult-like society!   The interpretation, "Let THEM make a sanctuary", "men AND women, all whose hearts moved them."  This really stands out beautifully, as THE women got to be participants and viewed with some equality, as well as some equity in society! Is the actual "building" of the Temple the gift ...

Do We Really Expect Results From Repenting?

Do We Really Expect Results From Repentance? As Yom Kippur approaches us, we are asked & expected ,year in and year out, on this ONE day to repent for our wrongdoings, impure thoughts, harmful acts, and ill behaviors for the past year!  Judaism is NOT the only religion/faith to follow this thought , as other ones also have their asking of forgiveness and repentance.  According to Merriam Webster; the action or process of  repenting  especially for misdeeds or moral shortcomings... t o feel or show that you are sorry for something bad or wrong that you did and that you want to do what is right The leader told us that we would be forgiven for our sins if we  repented . criminals who have  repented  for their crimes —  sometimes +  of We must  repent of  our sins/wrongdoings. — repentance   /rɪ ˈ pɛntn̩s/     noun   [ noncount ] His behavior is...

Mishpatim - Build UP With Tikkun Olam

In this week’s Torah Portion,  Mishpatim  , we continue to see the introduction of Laws, and the building of a strong foundation based upon  Ethics , a person’s  Civil  manner, and  Moralistic  values. The ethical, moral, and civil aspect are a great teaching in Judaism, in fact, a great foundation in all life, and it has given each person an important uniqueness and a possible proactive impact on him/herself, and to the group. To have a relationship, a healthy one at least, you must strive for that of being ethical, and very civil, and have moral DNA..  This is speaking of human dignity, preserving our own feelings and that of others, and understanding them, having self -worth, and continuing our own focus, as well as consideration for others that allows growth and accepts a proactive change. We must not be  critical , so very, very critical of everything and so sensitive! It seems like we live in a society now that we ar...
